How to ensure you are dealing with a reputable company
- Contact a company with a long history in stairlifts
- Browse through the website and/or brochure before asking them to visit you
- Ensure they are members of the Lift and Escalator Association (LEIA) and the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA). The BHTA Code of Conduct provides you with extended consumer rights.
- Avoid using companies who employ agents/commission-only salesmen
- Check whether they employ their own, fully trained engineers
- Don’t be pressurised into an appointment until YOU are ready
- Ensure you ask a trustworthy company to pop round and do the measuring up
- Always make a firm appointment and get the name of the surveyor/agent who will visit you
- Never allow a company to call on you unannounced
- Do not allow yourself to be pressurised into ordering until you are ready
- Check whether they have a Code of Conduct
